Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at info@abigailswaggytails.dog if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I am a mobile dog trainer based in Great Holm, Milton Keynes, and I cover the city and surrounding areas across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, and Northamptonshire.

Travel within 15 miles of Milton Keynes is included in my standard rate. Locations outside this area may incur a small surcharge depending on distance and travel time - this will always be agreed with you before our booking is confirmed.

I currently offer:

  • Initial Consultation (Online Video Call): £25
  • 1:1 Training Session (In Person): £70
  • Online Training Session (Video Call): £70
  • Advice Line Call (Telephone): £25

Each service has a different purpose.

If you are unsure which is best for your situation, just get in touch and I can guide you.

Yes. An Initial Consultation is required before any 1:1 or Online Training Sessions begin. This allows me to understand your dog, your lifestyle, and your goals so that I can tailor your training plan effectively.

If a training session is booked without a consultation, it will be cancelled and refunded, and I will ask you to book a consultation first.

Note: The Advice Line does not require a consultation beforehand.

The consultation lasts up to 30 minutes and takes place online via video call.

During this time, I will:

  • Discuss your dog’s behaviour and history.
  • Address your specific concerns and goals.
  • Provide management strategies you can start using immediately.
  • Recommend a training approach and decide if ongoing sessions are needed.

Many owners leave the consultation feeling clearer and more confident straight away.

1:1 sessions last up to 60 minutes and take place in your home or out on a walk, depending on what we are working on.

These sessions are practical and hands-on. I will teach you how to read your dog's body language, how to communicate clearly, and how to implement training in real-life situations.

You will never be judged - my job is to support you, not criticise you.

Online sessions are ideal if you live outside my travel area, prefer remote support, or if your dog behaves differently when visitors are in the home.

These last up to 60 minutes and take place via video call.

The Advice Line is a 30-minute telephone call where you can ask questions and get professional guidance without committing to full training.

This is useful for quick behaviour questions, new puppy advice, or second opinions - it does not include a written training plan.

I help with a wide range of everyday challenges, including:

  • Lead pulling and recall problems
  • Reactivity (toward dogs or people)
  • Jumping up and lack of manners
  • Puppy foundations and socialisation
  • Adolescent behaviour ("brain fog")
  • Rescue dog adjustment and confidence building

No. I use modern, ethical, reward-based training methods focused on clear communication and building confidence.

I do not use prong collars, shock collars, or slip leads.

My goal is to help you create a calm, trusting relationship with your dog based on mutual respect - not fear.

Every dog and situation is different. Some families need just one or two sessions to get on track, while others benefit from ongoing support.

After our consultation, I will recommend a realistic plan based on your specific goals.

Training is not a "quick fix." Real progress comes from consistency at home.

I will show you what to do, how to do it, and why it works - but success depends on your implementation between our sessions.

Think of me as your coach rather than someone who "trains your dog for you."

For the best results:

  • Have plenty of tasty, high-value treats ready.
  • Use comfortable, non-aversive walking equipment.
  • Ensure the environment is calm (TVs off, minimal distractions).
  • Ensure all participating household members are ready to join in.

You must tell me in advance if your dog has any bite history or aggressive behaviour.

Safety is my priority. In some cases, additional safety measures (like muzzle training) or specialist referrals may be recommended.

There is no judgement - only a focus on safety and honesty.

  • Initial Consultation, Online Sessions, and Advice Calls: Payment is required at the time of booking to secure your slot.
  • 1:1 Training Session: These can be paid in advance or on the day of the appointment via cash or card.

  •  Initial Consultation / Advice Line: 24 hours' notice required.
  • Training Sessions (1:1 or Online): 48 hours' notice required. Appointments cancelled within these notice periods are non-refundable.

The best first step is to book an Initial Consultation.

From there, we can build a plan that works for you and your dog.

If you are still unsure which service you need, just reach out via WhatsApp or email, and I will point you in the right direction!
