Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at info@abigailswaggytails.dog if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I am a mobile dog trainer based in Milton Keynes and cover surrounding areas across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.

Travel within 10 miles of Milton Keynes is included. Locations outside this area may incur a small surcharge depending on distance and travel time. This will always be agreed with you before booking.

I currently offer:

  • Initial Consultation (online video call) - £25
  • 1:1 Training Sessions (in person) - £70
  • Online Training Sessions (video call) - £70
  • Advice Line Call (telephone) - £25

Each service has a different purpose, so if you are unsure which is best, just get in touch and I can guide you.

Yes.

An Initial Consultation is required before any 1:1 or Online Training Sessions begin. This allows me to understand your dog, your lifestyle, and your goals so your training plan is tailored properly.

If a training session is booked without a consultation, it will be cancelled and refunded, and you will be asked to book a consultation first.

The Advice Line does not require a consultation beforehand.

The consultation lasts up to 30 minutes and takes place online via video call.

We will discuss:

  • Your dog’s behaviour and history
  • Your concerns and goals
  • Management strategies you can start immediately
  • Recommended training approach
  • Whether ongoing sessions are needed

Many owners leave the consultation feeling clearer and more confident straight away.

1:1 sessions last up to 60 minutes and take place in your home or out on a walk, depending on what we are working on.

Sessions are practical and hands-on. You will learn how to read your dog, how to communicate clearly, and how to implement training in real life situations.

You will never be judged. My job is to support you, not criticise you.

Online sessions are ideal if:

  • You are outside my travel area
  • You prefer remote support
  • Your dog behaves differently at home
  • You want follow-up coaching between in-person sessions

They last up to 60 minutes and take place via video call.

The Advice Line is a 30-minute telephone call where you can ask questions and get professional guidance without committing to full training.

This is useful for:

  • Quick behaviour questions
  • New puppy advice
  • Equipment guidance
  • Second opinions
  • Minor concerns

It does not include written training plans unless agreed.

I help with a wide range of everyday behaviour challenges, including:

  • Lead pulling
  • Recall problems
  • Reactivity (dogs or people)
  • Jumping up
  • Puppy foundations
  • Settling in the home
  • Confidence building
  • Boundaries and manners
  • Adolescent behaviour
  • Rescue dog adjustment

If you are unsure whether I can help, just ask.

No.

I use modern, ethical, reward-based training methods focused on communication, boundaries, and building confidence.

My goal is to help you create a calm, trusting relationship with your dog.

Every dog and situation is different.

Some families need just one or two sessions to get on track. Others benefit from ongoing support over several weeks.

After your consultation, I will recommend a realistic plan based on your goals.

Training is not a quick fix.

Real progress comes from consistency at home. I will show you what to do, how to do it, and why it works - but success depends on implementation between sessions.

Think of me as your coach rather than someone who "trains your dog for you".

For the best results:

  • Have some tasty treats ready
  • Use comfortable walking equipment (not aversive tools)
  • Ensure the environment is calm where possible
  • Turn off TVs and reduce background noise
  • Make sure household members know a session is taking place

A calm environment helps your dog learn more effectively.

You must tell me in advance if your dog has any bite history or aggressive behaviour.

Safety always comes first. In some cases, additional safety measures or specialist referrals may be recommended.

There is no judgement - only honesty and safety.

  • Initial Consultation - payment required at booking
  • Online Training Session - payment required at booking
  • Advice Line - payment required at booking
  • 1:1 Training Session - can be paid in advance or on the day (cash or card)

Bookings are not confirmed until payment is received where advance payment is required.

  • Initial Consultation - 24 hours’ notice required
  • Advice Line - 24 hours’ notice required
  • Training Sessions - 48 hours’ notice required

Appointments cancelled within the notice period are non-refundable.

You are not alone.

Most people contact me because something feels difficult, stressful, or overwhelming. There is no judgement here - only support, understanding, and practical help.

The best first step is to book an Initial Consultation.

From there, we can build a plan that works for you and your dog.

If you are unsure which service you need, just reach out and I will point you in the right direction.
